Shillong, Mar 31: The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) today informed that B Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh of Upper Lumparing has been nominated to attend the Basic Mountaineering Course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling from April 1 to 28.
Preference for this course is given to members of the association who have won medals in national and zonal championships, recognising their performance and potential in the field of sport climbing and mountaineering.
The training is being sponsored by the Directorate General of Assam Rifles.
The BMC is a foundational programme designed to introduce both men and women to the discipline of mountaineering.
The course aims to teach fundamental techniques of movement on rock, snow and ice; provide both theoretical and practical knowledge of mountaineering and allied subjects such as map reading, navigation, weather, medicine and mountain hygiene; instill the right attitude, encouraging participants to view mountaineering as an art rather than merely a physical or adventure activity; train participants to manage health and adapt effectively to mountain environments; promote awareness of conservation of the Himalayan ecosystem; build physical endurance and resilience against cold, hunger and fatigue.
The MeSCMA extended its best wishes to Kyrmenskhem for a successful training programme and future achievements in mountaineering.
