Shillong, Mar 25: The Shillong campus of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) will hold a two-day national seminar to explore and discuss late singer Zubeen Garg’s influence on art and society.
Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR-NERC), the seminar – ‘Society and Culture in Art and Philosophy of Life: Understanding the Cultural Praxis and Epoch-making of Zubeen Garg and the North-East India’ – the event will take place on March 26 and 27 at the Multipurpose Hall of the EFLU Shillong campus.
Organised jointly by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) and the Department of English Language Education (ELE), this academic gathering aims to critically evaluate the profound impact of the late Garg on the cultural and social landscape of the North East.
As one of the first seminars in the country of such kind, dedicated to Assamese singer Garg, it will explore diverse themes ranging from stardom and contemporary Assamese identity to crucial explorations of environmental advocacy and ecological concerns within his art.
