Shillong, Feb 11: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the Nokrek Skate Park at Tura Government College under the Sports Infrastructure Development initiative, aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and youth engagement in West Garo Hills.
The skate park has been developed as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Decathlon and implemented by OneStage in collaboration with Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE). The facility is intended to promote alternative sports and provide a dedicated recreational space for young people in the region.
“Many of our young skateboarders have been practising in public spaces due to the lack of dedicated infrastructure. This skate park is designed to provide them with a safe and structured environment to pursue their passion,’ the Chief Minister said.
Representatives from Decathlon reiterated their commitment to supporting grassroots sports development through CSR initiatives.
The Nokrek Skate Park is expected to serve as a dedicated space for skateboarding enthusiasts in Tura and surrounding areas.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated Bishop Mama Memorial School at Saltopgre in the presence of Rev. Andrew R. Marak, Rev. Jose Chirackal, officials, teachers, students, and members of the local community.

USTM Assistant Prof bestowed with prestigious Young Scientist Award

Shillong, Feb 11: Saikat Majumdar, Assistant Professor of the Department of Rural Development, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been conferred the Young Scientist Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of Agronomy at the International Conference on Modern Agriculture and Allied Sciences, 2025.
The prestigious conference was organised by Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV), Cooch Behar, in association with the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Society for Agriculture, Allied Sciences and Technology.
The event witnessed academic collaboration with leading institutions, including the University of Maryland (USA), Shantou University (China), IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Kolkata, GFSRD India, and the School of Agriculture, SR University, Warangal.
USTM congratulated Majumdar and said such recognitions exemplify the university’s strong research ecosystem and its emphasis on interdisciplinary work that addresses real-world challenges in agriculture and rural livelihoods.
The university said it is proud of its scientists’ and student researchers’ achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a robust research culture that promotes innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and societal impact.
