Shillong, Feb 10: In an enforcement drive, the District Level Task Force (DLTF) for West Garo Hills seized and demolished unauthorised brick kilns and illegal brick earth mining sites in the Gomaijhora area of Phulbari and Batabara.
The operation was conducted following reports of unlawful extraction and environmental violations.
The kiln operators were found to be in clear violation of the Meghalaya Minor Mineral Concession Rules (MMMCR) 2016 and lacked mandatory clearances, including Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.
Rupanker K. Marak, DFO-cum-Member Secretary, DLTF, West & South-West Garo Hills T Division, Tura, stated that regular inspections and monitoring will continue to curb illegal brick earth mining and prevent the establishment of unauthorized brick kilns in the area.
He further urged citizens to report any instances of illegal brick earth mining or brick kiln operations to the concerned department for timely action.
