Shillong, Jan 12: The Bhogali Utsav, 2026 concluded at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) today, marking a vibrant celebration of Magh Bihu (Bhogali Bihu) the festival of harvest, harmony, and togetherness.

The grand cultural event was graced by USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma, along with senior university officials, deans, faculty members, staff, students, and members of the local community.

Addressing the gathering, the Chancellor emphasised the importance of cultural festivals in strengthening social values, unity, and respect for agrarian roots. He highlighted that USTM Bhogali Utsav serves as a platform where education and tradition coexist, reinforcing the university’s vision of holistic development.

The Vice Chancellor echoed these sentiments, stating that such celebrations play a crucial role in nurturing cultural awareness and inclusivity among students.

The day-long celebration featured a vibrant Bhogali Haat (traditional mela) with more than 50 stalls, offering indigenous cuisine, ethnic delicacies, handcrafted items, and local products.

The celebration witnessed the indigenous traditional games played during the festive fun which drew enthusiastic participation, while cultural performances showcasing folk music, dance, and traditional attire added colour and energy to the festivities.

A major highlight of the Utsav was the Bhogali Lucky Draw, which generated widespread excitement among participants, with traditional prizes symbolising rural life and harvest prosperity. The celebration concluded with a community bonfire and live music, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that defines Magh Bihu.
