Shillong, Dec 16: The A·chik Holistic Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has urged the state government to complete the hiring process for the new Capt Williamson Sangma State University and not rely solely on ad hoc and temporary appointments.
Such appointments “severely impact the quality and continuity of education, hinders critical administrative functions and deprives qualified local candidates of stable employment opportunities,” it said in a press release issued today.
The pressure group also highlighted what it called an “alarming trend of creating and filling unnecessary, high-ranking posts at the top management level without any viva voce or formal interviews”. These, it added, should be done away with as there are instances where no proper recruitment has been advertised and recruitment procedures being followed to recruit persons for the top job.
ACHIK also called on the authorities to implement the state’s job reservation policy in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff at the university, which is Meghalaya’s first state university.
Furthermore, any attempt to circumvent established recruitment rules and absorb temporary staff into permanent positions without a fully transparent and open process in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) will not be tolerated by ACHIK.
