Shillong, Dec 16: Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai provided financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the Ferrando Transit Home and Children’s Orphanage at Mawlai Mawdatbaki during an advance Christmas and New Year celebration held at the institution’s premises on Tuesday.
The celebration was organised for the 87 children residing at the home. The programme was hosted by senior staff in-charge Achal Gurung, while the welcome address was delivered by Sister Dalina Francis G. Advocate Naphi Laso, Deputy Chief of the Legal Aids Reform Council, delivered a message of life enlightenment on the occasion.
The event featured Christmas carols, cultural performances and a skit depicting the birth of Jesus Christ, all performed by the children of the institution. A series of songs, recitations and competitions followed, and the programme concluded with a hymn and prayer service led by Sister Cathreen, second staff coordinator in-charge.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shullai praised the management and staff of the institution for organising the celebration and said he was honoured to be part of the occasion. Quoting from religious teachings, he said that service to humanity is service to God, and called for compassion and care for all living beings.
During the programme, the minister handed over financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to support the welfare activities of the institution and to mark the advance Christmas and New Year celebration.
