Shillong, Dec 4: East Khasi Hills Police has set up a new police booth at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), expanding on-site policing support within the city’s healthcare sector.
For many years, Shillong operated with only one dedicated hospital-based police booth located at Civil Hospital.
The Police Assistance Booth (PAB), opened on December 1, is to improve public safety and emergency responsiveness in critical medical environments, Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said.
The newly established booth is positioned near the main entrance of the NEIGRIHMS campus to facilitate medico-legal cases round the clock. It is manned by police personnel responsible for any emergency coordination and prompt response to any security-related concern arising within or around the hospital.
Syiem said the initiative is part of the district police’s broader commitment to strengthen security infrastructure in key public institutions across the state. Given NEIGRIHMS’ role as a major tertiary care and teaching hospital catering to the entire Northeast region, the presence of an on-site police booth is expected to significantly improve response time and contribute to a safer and more orderly environment, he said.
Citizens can reach the NEIGRIHMS PAB at +91 96122 06201 for assistance.
