Shillong, Nov 28: The body of an unidentified man was fished out of Umiam Lake and is awaiting claim by friends or family.
It was on November 19 that police in Ri-Bhoi were informed of a body in the lake. However, on reaching the site, police personnel were unable to locate it and the search and rescue team were summoned for the purpose from Shillong.
The body was later located and removed from the water. An inquest was conducted but identification of the body was not possible as there were no documents found on the deceased. After the inquest the body was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for an autopsy. Anyone who can identify the body has been requested to approach the hospital.
