Nongpoh, Nov 27: Ri Bhoi police today undertook another initiative to create road safety awareness to prevent accidents, especially along the Nongpoh-Umden stretch of the national highway, where resurfacing work is yet to begin.
The programme was organised by the Nongtluh Mathan Marmaiñ Development Forum (NMMDF) at Umden playground after Nongpoh MLA Mayral Born Syiem raised concerns over possible accidents that may happen along the stretch.
Syiem was also present at the programme in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police V.S. Rathore, Additional SP Orville Massar, J. Lyndem, Executive Engineer PWD Nongpoh Division, officials from the DTO office, NMMDF leaders, members of the public, and commercial vehicle drivers.
A mock drill was conducted on how drivers should comply with traffic rules enforced during routine checks.
The drill aimed to help prevent injuries and unfortunate incidents, especially at a time when the long-standing concerns of the public over the poor condition of the Nongpoh–Umden road.
