Shillong, Nov 26: An attestation parade for the sixth batch Agniveers was held at the 58 GTC, Happy Valley here today.
The parade marked the culmination of rigorous recruit training during which young Agniveers were transformed into physically fit, mentally robust and professionally competent soldiers of the Indian Army.
A total of 783 trainees participated in the ceremony, including 274 Agniveers and 509 Territorial Army recruits who commenced training on May 1, 2025. The Agniveer batch comprised eight Naga/Kuki, two Mizo/Lushai, 20 Assamese/Kachari, 18 Arunachali and other recruits from across the North East Region (226), showcasing the region’s rich and diverse martial heritage.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma reviewed the parade. In his address, he praised the distinguished legacy of the Assam Regiment and urged the new recruits to uphold the Regiment’s motto ‘Asam Vikram’. He also reminded them of the Army’s core values—“Duty, Sacrifice, Discipline and Patriotism… the hallmarks of a true soldier.”
The programme concluded with a slow march, the Army Song, the Regimental Song, the National Anthem, and a group photograph with the passing-out batch.
A PT display and interaction with parents were also organised prior to the Chief Minister’s departure.
