Shillong, Sep 26: In today’s world, environmental protection is no longer a choice but a necessity.
Across the globe, governments, institutions and citizens alike are recognising the urgent need to preserve and restore our natural ecosystem. In this spirit, the State Bank of India (SBI) once again reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability through impactful green initiatives.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, SBI Shillong Rural Region organised a three-day comprehensive tree plantation drive at Nongkohlew from September 24-26. The programme witnessed the plantation of over 3,500 saplings, including fruit-bearing trees and native species, with the vision of enhancing biodiversity and promoting afforestation.
The initiative was graced by officials from SBI Shillong Rural Region, including Mary Chongbawi (Deputy Manager, RBO Shillong Rural) and Deepanjali Daimary (Manager, RBO Shillong Rural), who reiterated the Bank’s dedication to nurturing these saplings beyond plantation, ensuring their survival and growth in the coming years.
Speaking at the event, SBI officials highlighted that the bank will continue to contribute meaningfully every year to such environmental initiatives that benefit not only nature but also society at large. They emphasised that safeguarding these saplings is just as vital as planting them, especially as the planting season draws to a close.
Recognising the grave threats posed by deforestation, wildfires, and climate change, SBI called upon every citizen of the state to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting the environment.
