Shillong, Sep 17: A landslide near Dawki in West Jaintia Hills has led to the restriction of heavy vehicle movement on the Shillong-Dawki road.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Pynursla issued a notice prohibiting the movement of goods-laden trucks and passenger buses from Lad Umsyiem to Dawki until restoration work is completed.
The landslide occurred at around 1:30pm near the popular boating point in Dawki, causing nearly half the width of the road to collapse into the Umngot River. Fortunately, no casualties were reported and the situation remains normal and under close watch.
The Shillong-Dawki road is prone to landslides, especially during the monsoon season.
