Shillong, Sep 14: Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), recently represented the university at the India-Africa Seed Summit 2025. The summit aimed to promote sustainable agricultural growth, food security and cross-continental collaboration.
Shukla highlighted the North East region’s potential for agricultural growth, emphasising the importance of promoting its agricultural and horticultural potential. He noted that the region’s biodiversity, climatic conditions and traditional knowledge systems offer immense opportunities for seed development and horticultural crops.
Several leading seed companies expressed interest in investing in the North East and partnering with NEHU, according to a press release. The summit resulted in a willingness to collaborate directly with NEHU in research, seed production and farmer training, with expected visits from seed company delegations to explore partnership avenues.
