Jowai, Aug 22: The Court of P. Syngkon, Special Judge (POCSO), West Jaintia Hills District, sentenced a 20-year old man to 23 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.
The court in its verdict on August 20 also imposed a fine of Rs 51,000 on Passti Latam, who was found guilty of the crime under Section 5(g)/6 of POCSO Act and Section 448 of the IPC.
Police said on March 12, 2021, the accused and another person had trespassed into the house of the 16-year old victim while her mother was not present. He chase out other children present, and raped her.
Her mother lodged an FIR on April 14, 2021 following which a case was registered at Jowai police station.
The case was investigated and chargesheeted by Sub Inspector NPS Marak.
