Nongpoh, Aug 19: Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit on Tuesday inspected an abandoned government building, supposed to house the Common Facility Centre for weaving and spinning, at Mawiong village under the Pahambir Cluster under her constituency.
The inspection was made after an appeal by local residents and village authorities.
The centre was constructed in 2012–2013 at an estimated cost of Rs. 20 lakhs and funded under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) Scheme for that year.
Khymdeit was accompanied by Mawiong village headman Mathius Maring, village secretary Crosmel Maring, A. Maring, Secretary of Raid Nonglyngdoh, and other village elders.
During the inspection, the MDC assured villagers that she would take up the matter with the concerned department and also to meet the Minister in charge, with an appeal to make the centre functional.
She emphasised that since a substantial amount of government funds had already been spent on the project, it should be put to use for the benefit of the local weavers and spinners of Mawiong and the surrounding areas.
