In a jolt to the Congress eight of its leading workers resigned from the party today.
All the leaders are office bearers of the North Shillong Block Congress Committee.
Nivash Paul and Biswajit Dutta, secretaries of the block and the unit president of Oakland and Beaver Road Unit, Congress, treasurer Chiranjob Dey, joint secretary Biplab Paul, Mahila president Litsala Sangtam and three executive members Ashim Deb, Kishore Deb and Amarjit Chakraborty submitted their resignation to the General Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee citing personal reasons.
Sources however said that they are set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
