The state’s coverage under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin includes the construction of 53,627 household toilets and 1,108 community sanitary complexes, cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak said today, marking the conclusion of the campaign.
“We have achieved 78.5 percent in the construction of individual toilets. It was made clear that these should be functional and I held review meetings to direct the officers to ensure this,” he said. The minister stressed that the mission aligns with the vision of providing access to safe and hygienic facilities.
Marak also reported that while 1,48,102 applications were received for the construction of individual toilets, only 87,000 were sanctioned.
Discussing the progress towards open defecation-free status, he mentioned that the state has achieved over 83 percent and is performing very well. The construction cost for each toilet is Rs 12,000.
Regarding challenges, he noted that land acquisition, although minor, remains a hurdle, and he urged traditional leaders to cooperate with the government to ensure that the targeted goals are reached.
