Shillong, Nov 10: The investigation into the death of 7-year-old Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, who went missing from Nongrah on October 8 and was found dead the following day at Lum Rumnong, Mawpat, is still underway and no arrests have been made yet, though persons of interest have been identified.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem today said that the victim had been suffocated to death and that there was no overt sexual assault.
Syiem described the case as “very complex,” noting that several persons of interest have been identified.
Police have received the post-mortem report and are now awaiting additional forensic findings to gather more evidence. “At this juncture, I will not be able to say anything because there are a lot of persons of interest and the SIT (special investigation team) is still investigating to identify who is involved in the murder of that child,” Syiem stated.
