Meghalaya recorded a further Covid-19-related death, taking the total number of fatalities from the disease to 61 in the State, health authorities informed today.
The deceased was identified by Director of Health Services Dr. Aman War as Phlabia Sun (56) of Pyllun village near ICAR in Ri-Bhoi district.
Sun, a cancer patient, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on August 22 and tested positive for the coronavirus on September 25. She passed away yesterday at around 8:30pm.
“The cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome with septic shock with Covid-19 with cancer,” Dr. War said.
Meanwhile, there were 127 new Covid cases reported today, with 71 recoveries. That takes the total number of Covid-19 infections in the state to 7,388, of which 2,424 are active and 4,903 have recovered from the disease.
East Khasi Hills recorded 95 new cases today (one armed forces/paramilitaries and 94 civilians). West Garo Hills reported 13, Ri-Bhoi eight (six jawans, two civilians), South Garo Hills five, North Garo Hills four and East Jaintia Hills two.
High-risk contacts made up 30 new infections in the district, while there was also one influenza like illness (ILI), three among police personnel and the rest found in various Covid clusters – Barapathar (five), Bishnupur (one), Bivar Road (one), Jaiaw (three), Laban (one), Lapalang (eight), Lummawbah (one), Madanrting (four), Mawlai Iewrynghep (one), Mawlai Kynton Massar (one), Mawlai Mawdatbaki (two), Mawlai Mawroh (one), Mawlai Nonglum (two), Mawlai Mawmihthied (13), Mawprem (seven), Nongmynsong (six), Rynjah (one) and Umpling (two).
In West Garo Hills nine high-risk contacts tested positive, along with one health worker, two returnees and one in the Tikrikilla cluster.
In Ri-Bhoi the two civilians were both high-risk contacts, while five high-risk contacts in South Garo Hills and four in North Garo Hills also tested positive. East Jaintia Hills’ two new infections were among returnees.
Of the 71 recoveries, East Khasi Hills accounted for 33 (four jawans, 29 civilians), West Garo Hills 29 (four jawans, 25 civilians), Ri-Bhoi five, East Garo Hills two and South West Garo Hills two.
The number of samples sent for testing until today afternoon was 1,69,449, out of which 1,62,061 were negative. The number of persons who entered the state since coronavirus restrictions were put in place is 46,760.
