With an aim to preserve the traditional customs of Them Marwet, the Marwet Sohjer committee along the traditional head of Raid Marwet, Ken Syiem, today kicked off the 4th Shad Sohjer, a traditional event of the area wherein the people seek blessings for their children and express their thanks for the harvest.
The event was held at 9th Mile, Baridua, Ri-Bhoi.
The day began with different kinds of sports activities, including football, followed by a drawing competition, quiz competition and dancing. Other activities included games and experiencing delicious cuisines at the food stalls.
The event was inaugurated by Jirang MDC Victor Rani in the presence of Syiem and the Longsan and Doloi of the Raid.
The Sohjer Festival could not be organised over the last three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The main ritual ceremony will be on January 19 where the Basan and Myntri of Hima Mylliem will be present.
