The South West Khasi Hills District Magistrate in charge LT Tariang has passed an order under Section 163 BNSS to restrict the loading capacity of vehicles up to 9.0 metric tons to avoid further damage to the weakened PWD bridges that have become old and dilapidated.
According to the order, there are a total of 25 weak bridges in Mawkyrwat division.
There are five Semi-Permanent Bridges (SPT) weakened bridges located along the Jakrem-Ranikor road (Bridge No.19/1, Bridge No.19/2, Bridge No.20/1, Bridge No.20/2 and Bridge No.21/1) seven along the Mawphlang – Balat – Gomaghat – Maheskola (MBGM) road (Br.No.17/1, Br.No.18/1, Br.No.24/1, Br.No.25/1, Br.No.25/2, Br.No.26/1 and Br.No.26/2).
There are also two along the Ranikor – Nolikata Road (Br.No.1/1 and Br.No.1/2), three along the Maheshkola – Daengiri (Bridge No.5/1, Bridge No.6/1 and Bridge No.7/1), four along the Nongjri–Nongkulang Road (Bridge No.3/1, Bridge No.3/2, Bridge No.4/1and Bridge No.5/1), three along Nongkulang – Maweit Road (Bridge No.7/1, Bridge No.7/2 and Bridge No.7/3 and Bride No.2/1 along the Rangthong – Rangjadong – Ngunraw Road.
