Nongpoh/Shillong, Oct 5: Two people were killed on impact while another was seriously injured when the Mahindra Bolero they were travelling in was hit at full force by a lorry going in the opposite direction on National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi this evening.
The accident at Umsaw Nongkharai involved a state government vehicle (ML 01 7455), which belonged to the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs’ North Garo Hills office, and a truck (ML 05L 4368).
The truck driver is believed to have veered out of his lane and into the wrong lane, smashing into the Bolero. The latter was heading towards Shillong at the time.
The deceased were identified as Sanbirth M Momin, the driver of the Bolero, and Smart Sangma. The other person in the Bolero who was injured was identified as Nilkash M Momin. The two in the truck were listed by police as Anil Dorjee (driver) and Bibash Thapa (handyman).
Nilkash received severe wounds and was rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment.
