A 15-year-old boy was killed and three other family members were injured after a large tree fell on their home yesterday at around 2pm at Umling village, Ri-Bhoi.
Heavy winds were apparently to blame for the tree’s collapse, which completely destroyed their brick and mortar house.
The deceased was identified as Banijied Hasdah, a Class 10 student at St Francis School, Umling. His parents – Nicholas Hasdah and Moni Kisku – and sister (unnamed) were injured in the incident.
All four were taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital, with an autopsy performed on Banijied’s body there while his family members received treatment for their injuries.
