An awareness programme, marathon and clean drive will be held to celebrate World Tourism Day in Umiam on September 27.
The events will be organised by the Ri Bhoi Tourism & Environmental Development Forum to highlight the importance of promoting tourism to uplift the local economy.
President of the forum, Plielad Tiewsoh told a press conference today that the marathon race will begin from Umbang to Orchid Umiam which will be followed by a clean drive supported by the dorbar shnong.
An awareness programme to educate residents on the significance of welcoming tourists to Meghalaya and ensuring a positive experience for visitors will also be held during the. It is expected to benefit local residents significantly, Tiewsoh added.
