Shillong, May 16: A delegation from the World Bank visited Meghalaya and toured project sites, focusing on health initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and outcomes.
The team’s first stop was the Sohra Community Health Centre (CHC), which is being upgraded to function as a First Referral Unit (FRU) under the ambitious state’s service delivery redesign initiative. This initiative is supported by the Meghalaya Health Project, which aims to strengthen the healthcare framework in rural areas, thereby enhancing accessibility to health services.
Officials said the CHC has also been activated for IPA/OBB through state-supported outcome based budgeting to improve grassroots health outcomes.
At Pomlum Primary Health Centre (PHC), the team inspected the ongoing health and wellness programmes, while at the Mawkdok Sub-Centre, developed under the Meghalaya Health Project, they reviewed the infrastructure improvements and rural healthcare planning.
The team also visited Cherra Presbyterian School, where they evaluated the Meghalaya Multisectoral Project for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment, and Resilience (MPOWER).
Officials said the visit was to review project impact and deepen collaboration on healthcare and community development in the state.
