Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui was informed while on a visit to Ri-Bhoi College today that work on a new auditorium at the college has been left unfinished for the past 10 years.
The North Eastern Council had reportedly sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the building in 2012 but the contractor had abandoned the project, teachers and students informed.
Rymbui was at the college for its 36th annual College Week function when informed of the unfinished building and he inspected the site and asked the authorities to follow up on why it was abandoned.
The minister told the press that he had not had prior intimation about the state of the building. He has also requested the college authorities to meet the local legislator of the area and Deputy Commissioner in order to get the work going again and completed.
Ri-Bhoi College Student Union leader Jayson Lennox Nongrum said that the auditorium, once complete, would be of great benefit for the students and he asked that the matter not be used for political reasons.
