The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has reiterated its decision to boycott the all-party committee on railways in Meghalaya, despite the state government’s renewed invitation to join.
VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh emphasised that the party’s decision was carefully considered and will not be reversed. “We are resolute in our stance and will not flip-flop on our decision,” he stated.
The VPP had opted out of the committee, citing concerns that implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and other regulatory frameworks should take priority over railway expansion.
The party remains firm in its belief that robust mechanisms are necessary to safeguard indigenous interests, warning that rail connectivity without these measures would exacerbate local anxieties.
