A group of women, led by a Self Help Group today came out in large numbers to clean Mawlangkhar, which is situated along the national highway 44 E.
These women led by the Mawlangkhar Village Organisation removed hundreds of waste polythene covers, used bottles and other waste materials dumped by passersby.
With its green topped hills and its scenic beauty, Mawlangkhar has attracted a number of people to it that even travellers would halt to and haphazardly throw wastes.
Wandashisha Kharsyntiew, who led the women, said the village with its picturesque valleys is a halting point for travellers, who in turn would dump garbage indiscriminately.
She said with safety and hygiene being given the highest importance, it is imperative that people should be responsible towards the environment.
