A woman described as an “infamous drug trafficker”, identified as Aiyesha Khatoon, alias Pahari has been caught with drugs again, for the fourth time.
The Anti-narcotics police in East Khasi Hills arrested Khatoon yesterday from Jhalupara and seized 73 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 9.72 grams.
Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said, the 50-year-old woman, a resident of Lower Paltan Bazar here, has three cases pending trial.
He informed that based on credible intelligence, a joint operation was successfully conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Lumdiengjri Police Station and Jhalupara Outpost
Four mobile phones, cash of Rs 27,410 were seized from her possession during the operation.
A criminal case has been lodged at the Lumdiengjri police station and further investigation is currently underway, he said.
“This successful operation highlights the unwavering commitment of Meghalaya Police in its efforts to combat and eradicate drug trafficking in the State,” Nongtnger added.
It may be mentioned that the State government has already set up an Advisory Board for implementation of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS).
PITNDPS is used against habitual offenders and the detention of the accused can be from 3 months to 2 years.
So far, two accused identified as Hubert Lamphrang Paliar of Mawiong Pyndengrei, Nongstoiñ and Pynhoi Nongtdu of Nartiang, Thadlaskein West Jaintia Hills, have been arrested under the PITNDPS.
