Shillong, Aug 6: The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills,  Abhinav Kumar Singh, accompanied by Sub-Divisional Officer Anendya Raajsshree and D Lyngdoh, Block Development Officer, visited Umsalang, Shkenpyrsit and Mupyut villages.

The purpose of the visit was to review the functioning of government schools, Anganwadi centers, health facilities, and the digital library under Amlarem C&RD Block.

At Umsalang Government Lower Primary School, the Deputy Commissioner observed that the mid-day meal registers and other important records needed updating. He suggested regular monitoring by educational coordinators and took note of infrastructure challenges, such as electricity and water supply. He assured follow-up on the nearby Jal Jeevan Mission project.

In Shkenpyrsit, the Deputy Commissioner visited both the Lower and Upper Primary Schools. He interacted with students, encouraged transparency by displaying teachers’ names and designations, and reviewed the mid-day meal program, teaching practices, and school facilities. He advised schools to submit proposals for additional classrooms and staff where needed.

At the Mupyut Health & Wellness Sub-Centre, the Deputy Commissioner commended the efforts of health workers in supporting pregnant and high-risk mothers. He appreciated the presence of kitchen gardens and dedicated staff at the Anganwadi Centre but noted the need for improvement in infrastructure, road access, and connectivity.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of community participation, regular monitoring, and timely intervention to improve public services. He assured the villagers and field staff that the district administration would continue to support their efforts, especially in health, nutrition, and education.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner also inquired about the availability of potable water through the Jal Jeevan Mission in schools, Anganwadi centres and other government structures. He ensured continued support and progress in its implementation.
