The District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet for West Jaintia Hills began here today at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium.
Bringing together athletes from 28 schools across the district, the three-day event is being organised by the office of the District Sports Officer (DSO) in collaboration with the West Jaintia District Sports Association (WJDSA).
The meet was inaugurated by AP Syiem, Joint Director of School Education and Literacy.
Extending her best wishes to all the athletes, she emphasised the vital role of sports in shaping the character and future of young individuals. “This athletic meet provides a platform for you young athletes to showcase your talent and skills and I wish everyone the very best,” Syiem said.
Highlighting the district’s recent academic success, she proudly noted that students of the district had performed exceptionally well in the most recent Class 10 board examinations.
“Just as you have excelled academically, I am confident that you will shine in the sporting arena. I hope many of you will be selected to represent the district in the upcoming State Level Athletic Meet to be held next month,” Syiem added.
K Passah, the DSO, and Patrick Lamare, the WJDSA vice-president, were also present at the opening ceremony.
