The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills has granted permission to religious leaders to celebrate Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja this year but has directed all devotees to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and avoid visiting other puja pandals other than those at Sarbamangala Kali Mandir, Dawki; Shiv Mandir, Jowai and in Nartiang. Furthermore, he has restricted the public from burning and using fireworks in public places, paths and roads during Lakshmi Puja and Diwali, especially high decibel crackers, and has permitted their use only until 5pm.
