Dressed in black and armed with black flags staff of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) took part in a sit-in protest outside the office premises in Jowai today.
This is the second time that the unpaid workers of the district council had to stop work and protest to secure their dues pending since February this year.
The workers under the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council Staff Association (JHADCSA) said they can no longer continue living without what is due and want the government to take note of their plight.
JHADCSA President Johnson Pohrmen said the staff are worried with the education of their children as well as the well-being of their families. With the holiday season around the corner, the the staff fear the worst if their dues are not paid.
He said after the October 4 sit-in protest the pending salaries for December 2022 and January 2023 was disbursed.
The staff rue that none of the members of the district council showed concern over their plight and urged all the seven MLAs of the Jaiñtia Hills and the MPs to take up their issue respond positively.
