The three Congress MLAs who joined the NPP today said that they did not demand ministerial positions but only wanted development for their constituencies.
“We were never offered any cabinet seat nor did we demand for it,” Umsning MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh told media persons.
“Our decision to merge with NPP was to be able to bring development and benefits for our constituency, be it getting a C&RD block, roads and other projects. The chief minister has assured us,” he added.
Dr. Lyngdoh also explained that he went for the meeting that was called by the Congress party on August 16, and told them that he wanted to join the NPP for the sake of development of Umsning constituency.
Nongstoiñ MLA Gabriel Wahlang also said that cabinet berth was never on his agenda but the main priority was to serve the public.
“Nongstoiñ constituency is very backward and the people are very poor. They depend on coal mining for livelihood. I’ve urged the chief minister to allow coal mining to be done legally like with the coke factories so that the people can earn,” Wahlang said.
He added that he could not sit in the opposition and tell the people of the constituency that he cannot do much for them.
“I felt it was my responsibility to do the least for the development of my constituency and that is possible by being in the ruling side,” Wahlang said.
Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar also reiterated that his joining the NPP would be beneficial for his constituency in terms of development.
