Thousands of Warjri clan members congregated at the annual general council of the Dorbar Seng Kur Warjri at Thynroit to mark the silver jubilee celebration of the clan organisation.
The event was graced by advisers, PBO Warjri, the former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, and Rudi V Warjri, a former Ambassador and senior members of Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep.
The year-long celebration was enhanced with a variety of physical and creative skills activities, which culminated with the mini marathon in the morning and the subsequent clan council where there were deliberations by senior clan members.
As part of the entertainment for the audience, choreographer Dapalei Warjri performed with her group. Noury Warjri sang during the morning celebration, followed by other children and young people in various performances.
The Seng Kur Warjri also felicitated selected outstanding people in different fields of education and skilled-based careers. The recipients were Ellerene Warjri for securing first class, second position in the BEd examination this year from NEHU, Obinas Warjri for securing the gold medal in the senior category of the 5th Annual National Martial Arts Games, Badahunshisha Warjri for securing second in the poster contest this year by the Forest and Environment Department.
The founding members of the Warjri clan organisation were felicitated on the occasion and a silver jubilee souvenir in memory of the founding president, the late DL Warjri, was presented to his wife, PO Kharkongor, who was accompanied by her children.
The official celebration was marked with the unfurling of the Warjri clan flag by the dignitaries. Cabinet minister Shakliar Warjri and a delegation of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep graced the occasion and shared their thoughts on various aspects of social significance.
The day was also observed as Khasi New Year’s Day according to the lunar calendar, as explained by Raphael Warjri who spoke on the ancient folk custom of time calculation.
