The collapsed wall is not connected and will not impact the under-construction Assembly building, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.
Constructed three years ago, the retaining wall located around the Assembly complex in Mawdiangdiang reportedly collapsed yesterday.
The Chief Minister attributed the collapse to landslide due to heavy rains during the last few days.
“After doing my preliminary investigation and findings along with the PWD, I was informed that the retaining wall has nothing to do with the under construction Assembly building. We’ve been told that the collapsed wall is very far away from the construction site,” he said.
Sangma said the retaining wall constructed about a couple of years ago was a different project implemented by the Assembly Secretariat and not the PWD.
