UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh has stressed the need for an improved coordination among the State government and other stakeholders to prevent repetition of chaos as that during the CUET exams recently.
Mawthoh said proactive measures must be taken by the government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) so they are adequately prepared at all levels and not to jeopardise the future of students.
The first day of undertaking the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in Meghalaya descended into chaos on May 15 after technical glitches in bio-metrics delayed the examination at NEHU.
The NTA drew flak from various quarters while the State Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma had stated there was lack of preparedness, coordination and no communication from the agency.
“It is very sad. I feel sorry for the students and the parents who had to go through that trauma. Students were drenched and had to wait for many hours and everything was not all right,” he said, criticizing the lack of administrative coordination.
Mawthoh called on the State government to address the matter seriously, especially for students from remote areas who have no facilities to prepare for the examination. There is also a need for thorough preparation of a large scale, involving thousands of students, he added.
