The waheh shnong of Umkiang village in East Jaiñtia Hills has accused employees of the district council of indulging in corrupt practices by collecting money from land owners in the name of land holding certificates.
Waheh shnong, Lasting Pala has taken the complaint to the revenue officer of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) stating that the employees had visited the village to conduct an inspection of lands for land owners to avail the certificates.
Pala said for land holding certificate a land owner usually makes payment at the JHADC office in Jowai and the collection made from the village during the inspection, which was also conducted yesterday, tantamount to illegal acts.
According to the waheh shnong a landowner was asked to pay Rs 11,000 for the certificate.
