The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has pledged to prioritise transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance to address the needs and aspirations of the people effectively.
In its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls released here today by party vice president Dr. Kara Chen, the VPP called for putting Meghalaya under Article 371 to protect Meghalaya from the application of Central laws affecting the customs and traditions of the people.
The VPP also stated that the party commits to upholding secular principles, fostering multiculturalism, and safeguarding the rights of minorities.
It also advocated for measures to protect Meghalaya’s customs and traditions, streamline grassroots governance, and preserve people’s ownership rights over land and resources.
The VPP’s manifesto also proposes a comprehensive border policy to promote socio-economic development along international borders.
On the border dispute with Assam, the VPP seeks to review and resolve it, seeking intervention from the Central government if necessary.
In the manifesto, the party also opposes the Uniform Civil Code Bill proposed by the BJP government.
The manifesto also states that the VPP supports the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Indian Constitution, opposes Hindi imposition, and upholds English as the medium of instruction and official language.
On Inner Line Permit (ILP), the VPP aims to implement it to regulate outsider entry and protect indigenous interests even as it stated that the party stands against the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act in Meghalaya.
The party also opposes uranium mining and railway lines unless safeguard measures are ensured.
It also pressed for amendment of the National Education Policy 2020 to make it relevant to Meghalaya and North East region.
