The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has commended the Dorbar Shnong of Mawsynram for the decision to maintain the Mawjymbuin Cave as a tourist site rather than a religious one.
“This stance reflects a commitment to preserving public spaces and preventing potential disturbances,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said today.
“We support the Dorbar Shnong’s efforts to uphold the integrity of Mawjymbuin Cave and ensure that it remains a place of interest for all visitors. The VPP encourages all parties to engage in respectful dialogue and seek peaceful resolutions to such matters,” Myrboh added.
It may be noted that the Meghalaya High Court recently gave the Dorbar Shnong Mawsynram time till August 14 to come up with a solution with regard to the request for the No Objection Certificate (NOC) by Yatra Society for conducting the annual pilgrimage to Mawjymbuin Cave.
The Dorbar Shnong Mawsynram had refused to issue NOC to Yatra Society stating that no religious rituals would be allowed at the site since it is a tourist spot.
