On the occasion of the 75th Republic Day, Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem and two other police personnel from Meghalaya were conferred with the Medal for Meritorious Service.
The other police personnel who received the medal include John M. Sangma (Armed Branch Inspector) and Teibor Sumer (Havildar).
Inspector Aniosca Basaiawmoit posted as Senior Instructor at Central Training Institute of Civil Defence and Home Guards, Meghalaya, Mawdiangdiang was also awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service.
Inspector Basaiawmoit is the first personnel from the Civil Defence and Home Guards Department in the State to receive the newly instituted Meritorious Service Medal.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had recently introduced four new medals, two for gallantry and two for service which will be awarded to all members of the Central Armed Police Forces, State Police, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Railway Protection Force, Correctional Services, Fire Service etc.
These four medals replace the erstwhile organisation specific medals such as the Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service etc.
Meanwhile, the 75th Republic Day celebrations in Shillong will be held tomorrow at Second Ground, Polo from 9 am onwards.
Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan will unfurl the national flag and will take the salute of the ceremonial parade.
The celebrations will be streamed live through local cable TV programmes and the DIPR Facebook page.
