Concerned about the dilapidated state of the road, villagers of Umling Umsarang conducted voluntary road repairs today to facilitate easier transportation.
This road, which connects National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi to Umling Umsarang via the Umling block office, spans a distance of just under a kilometre and has been in existence for over 40 years. Despite its long history, it has not seen significant improvements and is now dilapidated.
The persistent hardship and inconvenience caused by the poor road conditions compelled the villagers to take matters into their own hands today.
Umling Umsarang is home to more than 40 households. The villagers have long hoped for government intervention to provide a proper road, as the current state of the road severely affects their daily commute.
Speaking to the media, Umling Umsarang headman Throlin Thangkhiew expressed deep concern over the persistent road issues faced by local villagers. The village authorities have repeatedly approached public representatives and the Public Works Department but no significant improvements have been made.
“The road connecting our village to NH-6 is only 900 metres long, yet it remains in terrible condition. This makes travel especially difficult during the summer season,” Thangkhiew stated.
