The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has blamed the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Kharkutta block, Kapil Koch, after two women from a village were assaulted during a fracas that took place a few days ago over the leadership of a Village Employment Council.
According to a complaint from the GSMC to the Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills, R P Marak, the organisation stated that on October 20, two women from Bugakol were severely beaten up and injured on the premises of the BDO office at about noon. The incident, according to them, happened while the BDO was in his office chamber.
“There was a delay in announcing the new VEC functionaries, which led to the conflict and the subsequent assault between the two opposing groups. This has never happened before and is a result of the BDO’s unfair judgment,” they said.
As per sources, no case has been registered.
Sources added that a similar case of conflict has also been reported from the village of Tengasot in the same Block.
The GSMC asserted that such an officer should not hold the office of the BDO as he could not understand the grievances of the people and gave one-sided judgments. They therefore demanded Koch’s replacement.
To get a better idea of what had transpired, attempts were made to phone up the DC but without success. A message to the same officer also went unanswered.
