With the state elections drawing near, the National People’s Party (NPP) was strengthened on Saturday as several members from Umroi joined after switching their allegiance from the United Democratic Party (UDP), Congress Party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
They were welcomed to the NPP by the party’s Umroi block committee president and former MLA, Ngaitlang Dhar, and party candidate Dabaitbha Lamare.
There were around 100 UDP and Congress members who joined the NPP, prominent among whom were UDP and Congress youth wing senior figures Ailong Manbha Pariat, Pynskhemborlang Sun, Ailad Shadap and Sen Thabah.
The defectors said that their old parties have no future in Umroi, which prompted them to join the NPP.
