Shillong, Jun 5: The exit of Robertjune Kharjahrin might extend beyond those stated in his resignation letter, United Democratic Party (UDP) president Metbah Lyngdoh said today.
Kharjahrin quit the UDP as the vice president, ostensibly over the party’s support to James PK Sangma as candidate for Meghalaya’s only Rajya Sabha seat.
Lyngdoh said the party respects Kharjahrin’s decision to resign, stating, “From the party level, we have nothing to say. We respect the decision made by him.”
He stated that there is no division within the UDP and defended the UDP’s decision to support the NPP candidate, stating that it was not a wrong decision.
On the matter of an internal letter, expressing dissatisfaction over the candidacy for the Shillong by-poll, Lyngdoh said it’s the constituents’ rights to voice grievances.
“There is always a platform within the party, for dialogue, interaction and consultation with respect to any matter related to the party affairs,” he said.
The UDP president stated that the letter of the Shillong City District unit was leaked to the media, even as he stated that the issue was an internal matter which had been addressed and resolved.
