Deputy Chief Minister and NPP senior leader, Prestone Tynsong has distanced himself from yesterday’s toppling of the UDP-led Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
“I am a District Council Affairs Minister and I am looking after the welfare of the three District Councils. It is not my duty to topple any EC. It is the elected members who choose their leaders there,” Tynsong told media persons here today.
Rubbishing speculation that the latest political development in KHADC would have any impact on the MDA government where both NPP and NPP are allies, Tynsong said that the District Councils and Assembly are two different institutions.
On the decision by NPP and Congress to come together to topple the EC led by UDP, Tynsong said, “District Councils are party-less institutions where anyone can go and join anywhere he likes.”
