Tragedy struck today morning when two children drowned while swimming in the Pyndengrei River in Nongstoin, police informed.
One child in danger, however, was saved by a member of the public.
The deceased were identified as Melambha Nongkseh (9) and Manju Iawphniaw (11). The rescued boy was Andy Iawphniaw (13).
The three had gone swimming with other children of the same locality but got into difficulty.
The other children managed to raise a cry for help and Andy Iawphniaw was saved by a member of the public. The other two were not as fortunate.
The teenaged survivor’s condition is reportedly stable and he is being kept at Nongstoin Civil Hospital for observation.
