Two persons have been arrested on charges of killing a 10 year old boy in Umtangar village in Ri Bhoi district, police said today.
The accused have been identified as Pynshailang Warjri (32) of the village and Banshngai Tynsong (28) of Nongthymmai Lapalang in Pynurlsa.
The victim, Kitborlang Marbaniang was found dead inside the garden of one Comand Nongrang.
Police said the boy had gone missing on February 17 and his lifeless body was discovered in the garden the next day at around 7 pm.
A FIR was lodged on February 19 by the father of the victim and following an investigation the two accused were arrested.
“Police custody has been sought to find out the motive and other co-accused involved in the case.” Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said in a statement.
Meanwhile, residents of Umtangar and Umlur villages and others took out a rally today to show their anger at the brutal murder of the minor while demanding justice for the innocent victim.
Members of various pressure groups also participated in the rally, which began at Umlur and concluded at Umtangar.
During the protest, the residents and organisations demanded that the investigation be speeded up and police arrest the perpetrator or perpetrators soon.
