Members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of truck owners and transporters association today prevented trucks from loading cement and clinkers from cement plants in East Jaiñtia Hills in protest against the non-compliance to the fares fixed by the government.
The JAC comprising of the All Jaiñtia Cement Clinker Transporters Association (AJCCTA), Jaiñtia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) and the Meghalaya Trucks Union (MTU) stated that the cement companies failed to follow the government’s order to implement the revised rate for transportation.
AJCCTA president Balen Thubru said that members of the committee will not allow trucks to transport cement until and unless the set rate is duly followed by the cement companies. He said, “No trucks carrying cement and clinkers will be allowed at the national highway and our members are out there to check this.”
It may be mentioned that the state government through the Transport Department has notified rates for cement plants. For heavy and medium goods vehicles (Diesel), the minimum revised fare for black top road is Rs 7 per MT per Km where as the maximum revised fare is Rs 11 per MT per Km.
For graveled top road, the maximum revised fare is Rs 8 per MT per Km and the maximum revised fare is Rs 12 per MT per Km. The minimum revised fare for kutcha road has been fixed at a minimum of Rs 10 per MT per Km and the maximum of Rs 14 per MT per Km.
